The Longi 645W is currently trading at roughly Rs 44 to Rs 48 per watt in Pakistan, which puts a single panel somewhere around Rs 28,400 to Rs 31,000 in August 2026. Karachi sits at the lower end of that band, upcountry cities at the upper end.

It is one of the more expensive modules per watt on the Pakistani market. It is also, on paper and in the field, one of the best performing. Whether that trade is worth it depends entirely on whether your roof or your budget is the tighter constraint, and I will get to that.

What panel this actually is

The 645W sits in Longi’s Hi-MO X10 series, model family LR7-72HVD, sometimes listed as the Explorer variant. It uses Longi’s HPBC 2.0 back-contact cell technology built on their TaiRay wafer.

Back contact is the part worth understanding. On a conventional panel, thin metal busbars run across the front face to collect current, and those busbars shade a small fraction of the cell. Back-contact cells move that metalwork to the rear, so the front surface is uninterrupted. You get slightly more active area collecting light and a panel that looks solid black from the front, which is why these have become popular on visible rooftops.

The 645W is the upper power bin in a range that also includes 625W, 630W, 635W and 640W versions of the same physical module. Same size, same frame, different output bin. The Longi 615W that is also common in Pakistan is a related product from the same generation and is a genuinely reasonable alternative if the 645W is out of stock.

The 30-year linear power warranty is not standard in this market. Most modules in Pakistan carry 25 years. That extra five years is part of what you are paying for, though it is worth remembering that a warranty is only as good as the importer’s willingness to process a claim eight years from now.

The premium over a standard N-type TOPCon module is roughly three to five rupees per watt. On a sixteen-panel system that is somewhere between thirty and fifty thousand rupees extra. Where it earns its price, and where it does not

Roof-constrained installations. This is the strongest case. At 23.9 percent module efficiency on a 2.70 square metre footprint, the 645W puts more kilowatts on a fixed roof than almost anything else available here. If you have room for sixteen panels and need 10kW, this panel gets you there. A 550W module would not.

Hot climates. Back-contact N-type cells hold up better as temperature rises than older P-type PERC modules. In Jacobabad, Sibi, Multan or Sukkur, where roof surface temperature is punishing for four months of the year, that difference is not academic. It shows up on your generation graph every afternoon in June.

Cement industrial and commercial roofs. Longi markets this series specifically for industrial and commercial rooftops and high-temperature scenarios. Fewer panels means fewer clamps, fewer connectors and a shorter cable run, which trims installation cost on large arrays.

Where it is overkill. If you have a wide, empty roof and a limited budget, you are better off buying more square metres of cheaper module. Twenty 585W panels will cost less than sixteen 645W panels and produce more total power. Efficiency is only worth paying for when space is scarce.

The bifacial question

The 645W is a dual-glass bifacial module, meaning the rear face also generates when light reaches it. The extra yield is real but it depends entirely on what is under and behind the panel.

On a raised structure over a white-painted or light-coloured roof, expect a meaningful rear-side gain. On a ground-mount over sand or gravel, likewise. Flush against a dark roof surface with minimal clearance, the rear contribution is small and you have essentially paid for glass you are not using.

If you are buying bifacial, tell your installer to raise the structure and to keep the area under the array light-coloured and clear. Otherwise the feature is decorative.

Dual glass has a second benefit worth mentioning: no backsheet to yellow, crack or delaminate. In Pakistani heat and UV, that matters over a twenty-year horizon.

String design notes for installers

The Hi-MO X10 series runs at a higher voltage per module than the older 550W generation, which changes how many panels you can put in a series string before hitting your inverter’s maximum DC input voltage.

Two things follow from that. First, check the cold-weather open-circuit voltage rather than the datasheet figure at 25°C. Voc rises as temperature drops, and a string that is safely under the inverter limit on a July afternoon in Karachi can exceed it on a January morning in Murree or Quetta. This is the single most common design mistake made with high-voltage modules in Pakistan.

Second, the three bypass diodes in the junction box mean partial shading on one section of the panel does not kill output from the whole module. It still hurts. Diodes limit the damage rather than removing it, so layout still matters more than hardware.

For MPPT allocation, splitting a sixteen-panel array across two trackers of eight usually beats a single string of sixteen, particularly if your roof has two orientations or any morning shading on one side.

Real-world output expectations

Nameplate is 645W at standard test conditions. Nobody’s roof matches standard test conditions.

In practice, in Pakistani summer heat with a properly installed array, expect a single 645W module to deliver somewhere around 2.6 to 3.0 units a day averaged over the year. Sixteen of them, making up a 10.32kW array, land in the 1,150 to 1,400 units a month range depending on region and season.

The back-contact cell structure and the module’s temperature behaviour mean the gap between nameplate and real output narrows compared with older P-type panels, especially in the hottest hours. That is most of the practical argument for paying the premium, and it is worth more in Sindh and southern Punjab than it is in Islamabad.

Two practical warnings

Weight and handling. At 33.5 kg with a 2382mm long frame, this is a heavy, awkward panel. It needs two people to lift safely, and it needs a properly engineered structure. On an older or weaker slab, ask your installer to confirm the roof can take the distributed load before ordering. Some installers will recommend a lighter mono-facial module instead, and if they do, listen rather than argue.

Verification. Longi’s popularity means Longi labels are the ones most often faked or relabelled in this market. Before payment, check the nameplate on the rear: model code should read within the LR7-72HVD family, and the wattage, Voc, Isc and serial number should all be machine-printed and legible. Photograph every serial number when the pallet arrives. If a seller resists giving you the model code in writing before purchase, walk away.
